Now, this is probably the one step most copywriters and people that teach copywriting forget to include and it's not until you begin to include it in your own copywriting process you'll realise just what a difference it makes!
Just think back to a time when you've been sat in front of your computer trying to get a piece of copy or perhaps a product complete, (what you're doing is irrelevant to be honest) and your mind is a blank, you just don't seem to be able to focus or maintain any sort of clarity at all about the task in hand!
Let me assure you this is all too common...
If you try to complete any task or work project in anything less than a positive state the results are going to be less than positive too aren't they?
Having difficulty imagining this right now, try this exercise...
Sit in front of your computer and slouch down, let your whole body droop and sprawl over the keyboard, think negative thoughts and let your focus wander...
How does it feel?
Pretty crappy I'm sure so, let me ask you to consider this...
How effective are your efforts going to be if you remain in this state?
Correct, they're going to be absolutely useless!
Now just as an illustration, try this...
Once again sit in front of you PC, but this time sit bolt upright, breath deep and purposeful breaths and focus on the project in hand...
Think about the outcomes completing this project will produce, perhaps the money produced from this project provided it's top quality will allow you to take a well deserved holiday in your favourite country, perhaps you'll have the final payment for the car you've dreamed of for the last 12 months...
By focusing on the positives and adjusting your physiology you'll notice an immense shift in productivity!
State then is an extremely important step, don't you think?
Let's recap...
There are 2 stages to changing your state into one that you know will produce the best results, results that'll allow you to write copy to blow the socks off your reader and leave them compelled to take you up on your offer, whatever it may be.
Step 1
Change your physiology, your body posture and body language have a massive impact on the way you feel, the way you conduct yourself and indeed the way you think at any given moment...
So sit or stand upright, shoulders back and chest out, taking deep and purposeful breaths in and out...
This will, believe me make you feel completely different and much, much more positive.
Step 2
Concentrate here on the reasons why you're doing this...
What is the outcome of producing a great piece of copy, what will you achieve..
What are you going to earn?
How will it feel?
What will you finally be able to afford (somethings you've wanted for sometime)
Who is going to benefit from this project being the best I can make it?
The internal reasoning you project will have an immense effect on the outcome you achieve.
So, before you begin to write your next piece of copy (or attempt anything you are focused on) make sure you are in the best state possible...
If you're not in a great state then you're doing yourself and your client, family or friend a huge disservice.
