They would...
Then here's what I'll do for you over the coming weeks, a new tip and another way for you to improve the copy you write.
So, let's get straight to it...
TIP No 1.
Write as you speak...
That's right too many people try to make their copy perfect, you're not writing a thesis or sitting your English Language exam again!
The grammar doesn't need to be perfect, in fact it shouldn't be!
Let me ask you this, how often do you compose a sentence perfectly or enunciate every word when you're chatting to your friends?
How strange would they think you were if you started speaking like that on a night out, you'd sound like some kind of English gent from centuries ago...
Not a good look for a pint and a catch up down the pub!
They'd probably walk away from you (funnily enough that's what happens to your reader too)
Your copy should be written in the same manner as a conversation with a best friend, it should read as if you are having a chat with the reader and only the reader...
By that I mean don't write as if you're on stage and speaking to a huge group, it needs to be personal, if you can achieve that and keep it conversational...
You'll be one step closer
To check it sounds right, sounds the way you would speak...
Read it out loud
There's no better way to see how your copy is going to read to the intended audience than to read it out loud to yourself...
Yes, you'll look at little mad, but you'll find out two things:
- Does it sound conversational and is it directed to the reader only
- Is it interesting (will it hold the readers interest?)
After reading, if you can answer yes to both those questions then you've made a massive improvement in the standard of your copy.
Ok, that's tip 1...
Keep a look out for Tip No 2
